In 1980, Walnut Hills Restaurant opened as a round-table restaurant in the handsome old house on Adams Street. Part of the historic district, the house was built in 1880 by the Rogers family. Respecting tradition is what keeps the lunches and dinners popular at this Southern mecca. Joyce Clingan, owner, understands this and so does Miss Herdcine, a second-generation employee and chief cook at Walnut Hills for over 30 years. Herdcine’s brother, Charles Williams, mother, Alma Robinson, and son, Xavier, have also contributed to the restaurant’s lengthy menu of Southern favorites.
