Randy and Jeff Kaplan became the fifth owners of Parkette Drive-In Restaurant in March 2009. Parkette was founded in 1951 by Joe Smiley who was a pioneer in the industry. Beginning with walk-up service, Parkette went to carhop service later in the 1950’s and added indoor seating in the 1970’s. The menu still features Joe’s original recipes, including Fried Chicken, Hot Dog Chili Sauce, and the Famous Kentucky Poor Boy Burger—voted #5 in Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives Top 10 of All Time in December 2013. The same month, Parkette’s Hot Brown Burger was featured on the Rachel Ray Show. In addition, the restaurant was featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives hosted by Guy Fieri in September 2010. In 2013, Parkette Drive-In Restaurant added a full-service, retro 1950’s garage-style dining room adding ninety seats.
