Garlic Cheese Biscuits

2 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1 stick butter, melted
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 cup milk
1/2 cup shredded cheese
3 tablespoons butter-flavored shortening

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Place flour in mixing bowl; add butter, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Stir until mixed well. Add milk and mix vigorously by hand until fully incorporated and batter is almost smooth. Stir in cheese. Add shortening to an 8-inch cake pan (can also be made on a cookie sheet) and place in oven until melted and hot. Drop biscuits by large spoonfuls into pan so that they are barely touching. Bake at 405 degrees until edges are browned. YUM!
